Despite its wild, rural location Edale is remarkably accessible. You can, of course, drive to Edale but why drive when you can get the train? Edale has got its very own station with trains every couple of hours (more frequent at weekends) from stations along the Manchester-Sheffield line. You can get from the centre of Manchester or Sheffield to Edale in round about 40 minutes!
By car, Edale is about 50 minutes from the M1 junction 29 (Chesterfield), 40 minutes from the M60 motorway and 60 minutes from the M6 junction 14 (Stafford). Beware though in winter the roads are sometimes icy and snowy, particularly on Mam Tor, Winnats Pass and Rushup Edge. Unless you are staying at a guesthouse or holiday cottage with parking the options are fairly limited in the village with only a few parking areas. Traffic wardens do venture out as far as Edale and can have a field day with cars parked along the local roads or outside of the designated parking spaces.
